I *Heart* Craigslist...most of the time!

I got THE most amazing deal on two chairs and an ottoman today. $50 for all three pieces! You cannot beat that!

I know they don't fit most folks taste and the color may not match anything I own but I can always have them reupholstered when I have the money. They are not antiques or high end chairs but rather replicas of my favorite Queen Anne style Wing Backs!

I am so freaking excited about these chairs. Oliver picked them up today and he said that they are in fantastic condition and very nice...

Oh, I almost forgot.

It has been decided that Small Dog (aka Henry the Pup) needs a friend. I have an adoption agency coming this weekend to do a home inspection. This should be rather painless considering I am just moving in. The place is very tidy and very empty!

I have picked out a Minature Pinscher online from a local rescue organization. They are called the Internet Miniature Pinscher Service Inc. Check out their website for more details.

The new puppy is named Rudy. He is about 6 months old and was found as a stray. I can't wait for he and Henry to meet!!

Cheers To You. You Ignorant People.

I have too much going on lately and all I want to do is sleep. I have been meaning to update this for a week now but can't seem to find the time. I don't have the time to be doing this right now but I have a few things I would like to complain about so suffer and deal. I will give you a "real" update later (I can almost guarantee it will cure your insomnia).

Today's gripe -

I got up this morning and it was 9 degrees outside. For my International readers that is about minus 12 degrees Celsius. Freaking cold - that is what it is. So anyway, I bundled up the best I could considering I can't find my hat or mittens and I drive to work cursing the cold the whole way. I leave the parking structure to walk to my office (it is about one block from the garage to my office and until there is slush on the ground I will walk this outside) and what do I see? I pass not one, not two but THREE women who are wearing flip-flop sandals on their feet. Are you kidding me? What are you thinking? Your mothers should slap you for your ignorance.

Have you no self preservation skills? Do I need to stop you on the street and tell you how to dress? I just don't get it. I have a bit of an understanding of fashion over comfort. Haven't we all sacrificed our comfort to look ultra cute on occasion? But this is ridiculous. It is not fashionable. It does not make you look cute. It does not imply some "I am tougher then you wimps" coolness.

Nope, it is just plain dumb.

OK, so I realize I said "a few things" but I have to go to a meeting now. I will whine some more when I get back

Picking up Pup!

We picked up the new puppy on Saturday. He is about as cute at you can get. Teeny, tiny is an understatement. His head is smaller than my daughter fist. He has a little body but we have seen glimpses of his big personality already. He is very playful and has very sharp little baby teeth!
We took him to my sisters house yesterday to show him off and he was very nervous around their dogs but absolutely came out of his shell when he saw the cat. He tried so hard to get the cat to play with him. He turned on all of his puppy charm. All it got him was a smack in the head by one very large kitty paw and a hiss. He backed off for a while but then went right back at it! ADD at it's finest...

It is going to be hard for me to have him live at my daughters house for the next couple of weeks until I move into my new place. I want him here, with me, so I can snuggle with him. I have posted more pictures of him on my photo page if you want to have a look.

I am a bit worried how he will do being home all day by himself. I am having guilt about that!

Bad, Bad Blogger.

I know that I have been a giant blogging slacker lately. I tell you that time has been accelerated. I am not kidding about this. I know it is moving faster these days. How else do you explain that it seems like Fall just arrived and yet we are a week away from Thanksgiving? I'm just saying...

So I won't do a complete day by day update like I did last time I slacked off, I will just give the highlights.

1 - I found a new place to live. It is an absolutely adorable little house in North Minneapolis. A fairly new friend of mine owns it and has decided to make it a rental property instead of stressing out about trying to sell it in this crap market. She did a full rehab on the house when she bought it and it is incredible. She gave me the link to her blog today that has all the "before" pictures on it. It is freaking amazing what she did to this house. Take a look for yourself - http://overnorth.blogspot.com/

2 - I have been buying some random furnishings for it. Mostly chairs. How I do love my chairs. They are all of the Wing Back kind. I got amazing deals on all of them and I can't wait to have my friends and family sit in them! I also bought a couple of really cute side tables. I wish I had thought to take pictures to post here...

3 - I have found a puppy to help me make my new home feel more homey. He is a Pug, Poodle, & Rat Terrier mix. His current name is Blob. I may keep it. It suits him.

4 - I have changed my moving date from January 1st to December 1st! Very exciting and also nerve wracking. I will miss my current house mate more than I probably should.

5 - My son has decided to wrap up his time at the Job Corp. He will be done in mid January. I am both nervous and excited for him. We are going to work on finding him a job and a school between now and then. Wish us luck.

Well that's it for now. More later - I promise it won't be a week this time.

Time Flies.

Sometimes I am shocked by how time gets away from me. Seems like just a few days have passed and suddenly it is a whole week gone. Where does it go? I wouldn't worry so much about this but it is not just a day or two that speed by, it is weeks, months, years.

Lots has happened since last I posted. Where to start? How about with last Sunday (yes, a whole week ago), I will see what I can remember.

Sunday - October 28th - Took my mom, sister Amy, James and Sky to lunch at Fire Lake Grill. That place is awesome. If you haven't been there you really need to make a point of it. I recommend the flat iron steak with their mashed potatoes. The sauce they give you with the steak is freaking great! After lunch my mom, sister, Sky and I went to see the Minnesota Orchestra perform. It was folk music day. They had guest musicians and ethnic dancers. It was pretty cool. It was a Target Family Fun Day so there were tons of kids there. It was fun to watch the kids get antsy and then have their attention caught by something in the music. Mostly I felt bad for the parents and a bit frustrated with them. They seemed to expect that their kids would be more than thrilled to see a live orchestra perform. I think they may have had their sights set too high. It was a good time though. My mom and sister don't really get to go to many things like that in downtown so I really enjoyed being able to take them. And I got to take this humiliating picture of them with Mary Tyler Moore! I love it! I think I will start a new blog called "Mary Tyler Moore & Me" and have it be nothing but picture of people taking pictures of themselves with the statue.

Monday - October 29th - Free movie night! We went to see "Enchanted," Disney's newest movie. It was very good. The beginning was your typical cheese ball princess lives in the woods, talks to animals, waits for prince charming deal and then she gets shoved in a well that turns her into a "real" girl in the middle of New York City. The gal who played the princess was completely convincing as the naive princess who believes in love at first site. I won't tell you too much about the rest of the movie but I will tell you that it is filled with silly songs, dance numbers and elements of every Disney princess story ever told. I loved it.

Tuesday - October 30th - Don't remember doing anything spectacular on that day. So I guess it was another average day.

Wednesday - October 31st - We had a big tour at work - 3M is looking for a new vendor. We made it to the final three. Everyone is pretty excited about it. It could mean HUGE things for our office. It was a very good day - everyone was happy and having a good time. One of our out of town guest decided to play a trick on S. He glued his handset to his phone. I think the build up was more fun then when he actually discovered it had been done.

James was asked to leave the Job Corp today because they think he is a danger to himself and others. He called Oliver to have him pick him up. I find it both comforting and disturbing that he would call Oliver before he would call his own dad. Apparently Sky broke up with him, he was crying and a security guard thought he needed to talk to a professional so they sent him to the Health & Wellness Center where the Dr decided that he needed to leave. I talked to the security guard about what happened and he said that he thought the folks in H&W over reacted and that it was unnecessary for James to leave. The center director was gone for the day so there was no one I could speak to about it. We had on choice but to pick him up. I told him that he needed to go to his dad's house. He was supposed to call the JC on Thursday to see when he could go back. As of Friday we still know nothing.

I bought an aquarium for Meany McMeany. It is a 3 gallon one. Blue base, blue cover, blue rock. He should look very good in it.

Thursday - November 1st - We had a "sales blitz" at work. We had to be out of the office doing 'cold calls' all day. Door-to-door gathering of information. The person who came back with the most business cards won a $75 gift card to Macy's. I did not win but I was second place and I had a very good time doing it. I was the only person to bring back an actual project. It was nice to meet a bunch of new people and do something different. My territory was the Western part of the city. After work we went for a few drinks. It was fun but things like this make me realize just how old I am compared to my workmates. I like them, a lot, but the age difference is incredibly amplified at happy hours.

Friday - November 2nd - I woke up Friday with the worst headache I have had in a very long time. It felt like my skull was bruised on the outside. When I sat up I got nauseous. It was awful. I slept the whole day with my head buried under a pillow to block out the light and sound. I have had migraines in the past that made me nauseous but this was completely different. It was like my balance was off. I was fine as long as I sat still and didn't try to move. I never did throw up but I would not have been surprised. I took a bunch of Excedrin and finally at about 10 O'clock I felt better. I was very sad because we missed a friend of ours house warming party. I always seem to get sick when there is a party to go to!!!! Sucks.

Saturday - November 3rd - I got up rather early, feeling pretty good and decided that this was the day to get my errands done. The ones I had been putting off for weeks. I sat down to make a list and it turned out that I hadn't really put anything errand related off except buying a new shower curtain. So I got James up and he and I walked over to the FEMA gym where Fi takes her self defense and Judo class. We sat in on the last 20 minutes of it and then had Oliver drop us at Target. He ran to the bank while we shopped. After Target we made a trip to the grocery store, dropped Oliver, Fi and James off at home with the groceries and instructions to make lunch. I went to pick Bailey up at her dads. It took me about 8 years to get there because of all of the road work. I was so raging by time I got there. People drive like idiots and construction makes it worse. Bailey and I got home in time for lunch. James left and went to his dads house for the evening and the rest of us lounged and did nothing for the rest of the day. It was nice.

Sunday - November 4th - Oliver and I slept in for what seems like the first time in weeks. It was spectacular. The girls got up at about 9:30 and kept quiet so we could sleep. Yeah good girls! We got up, ate breakfast, Fi played her Nintendo DS, Bay surfed the web, Oliver read, I napped in the chair. It was a hugely productive day. We did go out to a movie in the afternoon. We saw Hairspray. Not certain it was 7 year old appropriate but when drilled about what she learned from the movie her answers included things like: "French kissing is icky," "it doesn't matter what you look like on the outside, only on the inside" and "you shouldn't be mean" so I think we are OK. It was a pretty good movie. Lots of silly songs and dancing. I enjoyed it. The popcorn was fabulous and almost made up for the fact that the Roseville 4 Theater smells like URINE!! We took Bay to her dad's after the movie. We had spicy sausage and red beans & rice for dinner. That was freaking great. I am craving it today. I should have brought it for lunch.

Monday - November 5th - Well I think I will do a post for this day after I determine how it will turn out. So far I am lacking ambition and energy so it is blah, blah, blah. I think I will see if anyone wants to have lunch with me.
